The pacific island of Oahu is physically the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands at about 600 square miles, but is easily the most populated of all the islands in the State of Hawaii. Oahu is approximately 44 miles long by 30 miles wide and has a total shoreline of over 200 miles
The state capital of Hawaii is Honolulu and this famous city is located on the south eastern coast of Oahu.
The island of Oahu was originally formed a very long time ago from two separate shield volcanoes called Waianae and Koolau. Between the remnants of these lies a broad valley which is referred to as the central Oahu Plain. Mount Kaala is the highest point in the Waianae Range at about 4000 feet.
